Despite everyone’s best intentions, accidents do happen. If the accident is as a result of something you, or your business has done then a client, or member of the public can claim against you for compensation.
To help protect you or your business, M&DH Insurance can provide public liability insurance or employers liability insurance, to suit your needs. More details are below:
What is Public Liability Insurance?
Public Liability insurance covers any awards given to a member of the public due to an injury or damage to their property caused by yourself or your business. It also covers any related legal fees, costs and expenses.
Without Public Liability you are liable to pay the full amount of the claim. If you unable to pay the claim, you risk losing your business, home and any assets that you have.
In 2015 liability insurers paid out £6,000,000 per day in public liability claims. The average bodily injury claim costs £10,680, compared to an average of £2,649 for all other types of claim. No business should be without public liability insurance. A lack of Public Liability puts thousands of businesses at risk every year.
How much does Public Liability Insurance cost?
The cost of public liability is relatively low but it varies from business to business depending on the number of employees, turnover, the activities of your business etc.
How can a Public Liability Insurance Claim Arise?
An example of how a Public Liability claim could arise is if a member of the public slips on a spillage in a shop and there were no clear warning signs for the spillage. The member of public could quite easily sue the shop owner for damages.

Is Employers Liability Insurance a Legal Requirement?
Yes, Employers Liability insurance is a legal requirement. The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for enforcing the law on employers liability insurance and can fine you up to £2,500 for any day that you do not have the appropriate insurance.
Employer Liability Insurance: Useful Information
When you take out an Employers Liability insurance policy, you will receive an employers liability certificate of insurance. You must display a copy of this where employees can easily read it and keep copies of it for at least 40 years. You need to make these certificates available upon request to health and safety inspectors or risk a fine of £1,000.
