George reached out to M&DH for sponsorship for his charity football team, ‘Dementia United’. The idea of Dementia united started when George had a family member diagnosed with Dementia.
George wanted to make a difference! He wanted to raise money and awareness for Dementia UK, and decided to use a platform he already had a big influence in. He started playing charity games up and down the country to raise funds for Dementia UK, as well as other charity organisations. They are not only a charity team and is in the process of building a community of players who have been affected by Dementia.
M&DH discussed ways to bring employees together to raise the necessary fund for George and settled on a pub quiz. M&DH were fortunate enough to be granted use of Brewpoint’s function room and was able to host the quiz on June 6th 2024.
George came along to speak to the team about the reasons why he started ‘Dementia United, and brought along Admiral Nurse, Clare. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses. Continually supported and developed by Dementia UK, they provide life-changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia – including Alzheimer’s disease.
Clare was able to give the team a powerful Q&A session which gave everyone a deeper understanding of dementia as an illness, and the vital care that the Admiral Nurses provide.
At the end of the day, those at M&DH that took part raised a total of £390 and we all felt following the earlier Q&A, that this money was going to a worthy cause, and we are very thankful for George reaching out for sponsorship.
