Local insurance firm M&DH Insurance Services has teamed up with a Bedford primary school to help children learn valuable skills that will prepare them for their future.
Pupils of Scott Primary School are enjoying additional sports coaching in professional rugby, tennis and girls’ football coaching.
This is in addition to their usual PE lessons and clubs, which are said to have further embedded a love for sport and appreciation that an active lifestyle helps a healthy mindset.
Many children have also been inspired to take up sports out of school and have shown a determination for even more sporting opportunities to be made available.
One pupil even started a petition for girls to be given the same opportunities as boys in football. 11-year-old Lola Bracey, who organised the petition, was also coached by Real Bedford Girls’ football at Scott Primary thanks to the sponsorship from M&DH.
M&DH who have committed to support the school for three years, want to introduce more activities to broaden their opportunities in the second year.
This has led to increasing activities in the school’s science labs, with Little Science Lab inspiring future scientists with fun activities such as dry ice potions, slime making, rocket launching and exploring density with lava lamps.
Life skills are also a focus with a professional cookery teacher, The Old School Kitchen, visiting the school so pupils can cook and bake a variety of savoury and sweet dishes.
Ava Appleton, who is nine, said: “It was the best cooking classes ever and I would love to do more of them at school. My mum and dad enjoyed all my dishes and want me to cook at home. I loved loved loved it”.
Headteacher at Scott Primary, Anita Barker added, “We are very grateful for the opportunities that M&DH are providing for our children.
“At Scott Primary we believe it is really important that our children benefit from wide-ranging experiences alongside their learning. All the children have been enthusiastic and excited to enjoy all these activities.”
M&DH also sponsors more local sports teams, including Clapham FC, Raunds Town FC, Wilden Cricket Club, and the Bedford & District Sunday Football League.
Richard Hames, CEO at M&DH Insurance Services Ltd, expresses enthusiasm for these partnerships.
“Our goal is to actively engage with the community, contributing to the overall well-being of the areas we serve. We look forward to an exciting season of matches, victories, and sports growth,” he said.
