M&DH Insurance are keen advocates for the work the Sue Ryder Charity does, this year M&DH were the main sponsor for their ‘Starlight Hike’ donating £7,000 to the event and we are incredibly proud of its success! The Starlight Hike is a means of raising crucial funds for Sue Ryder’s services which are in ever increasing demand, £500 can help fund 24 hours of expert care so that someone can spend their final days in familiar surroundings with treasured memories and their family.
M&DH staff, their family and friends went along in support of the charity and the memory of lost loved ones. The event provided an evening of entertainment with a rocking choir belting out an array of classics that everyone was singing and dancing along to, this was followed by a moving talk in which staff from Sue Ryder shared their experiences of the incredible support given to families through the most difficult times. This helped motivate all those in attendance and reminded those walking in memory of a lost loved one they were not alone. Soon after the crowd was given an electrifying warm up to ensure the hikers were all ready for the start.
As the count down for the start finished, the choir sang those on the hike off to ‘I’d do anything for love’ by Meat Loaf, which really stuck to the theme of the evening. The walk was set in and around Bedford’s beautifully lit riverside embankment, along the route volunteers kept the hikers on the dedicated path and gave words of encouragement at every turn. Just over the halfway mark was a band stand which was occupied by an acoustic trio, who were playing next to a ‘Memory Tree’ where everyone had the opportunity to leave the names of who they were walking for in memory. This part of the walk was a sombre moment, giving time for reflection, then at the finish line all were congratulated with applause and awarded a medal in recognition of their efforts.
